My first test

Well, today I’m happy to announce that I passed the first test of my will power. It took me a few minutes, but I won!

After my experience of trying to do the body weight workout before breakfast, I decided I would do my interval training in the morning and save the heavy part of the routine for the evening. Good for me, because this meant I could get up a bit later. Had I been doing the entire Workout B, I’d have to get up at 5:45 so I could finish and be showered before my kids got up. So, I was looking forward to “sleeping in” until 6:15, which is much more tolerable.

At about 3:30 this morning, I woke up to the sound of wind howling by my window. It sounded like a freight train was coming through, and it lasted for a good hour or more. I tried to go back to sleep, but I was wide awake for some reason. I can normally roll over, close my eyes, and go right back into a deep sleep. So, as I lay there listening to the wind blow garbage cans around (it was garbage pickup day today), my mind started going into hyper drive and I couldn’t fall back asleep.

I think I finally nodded off at round 5:00 and that alarm seemed as if it went off as soon as I closed my eyes, but it hadn’t. It said it was 6:15 but I didn’t want to move. I started justifying my staying in bed to myself. I promised myself I’d do the entire workout tonight, 8 hours of sleep was more important. I told myself to get up and get moving, to which I told myself to go to hell. After 2 minutes of the devil in one ear telling me to go back to sleep, and the angel in my other ear telling me to not listen, I flicked the devil away and drug my groggy ass out of bed and hit the treadmill.

I feel real good about overcoming that minor roadblock. I not only feel good because the Workout B interval got me going, but I also overcame something that could have set me back to my old ways quite easily. Once you start rationalizing your bad habits, you’re done. I refuse to let myself be my own worst enemy this time.

Congrats. I did Week 1 workout B today and it kicked my ass, just like Workout A did on Monday…I’m sore as hell, but that’s a good thing. Love the blog.
