Here we are, 10 days into the Men’s Health Belly Off! 2008 program. I thought I would take a few moments to jot down some random thoughts from these first 10 days.
…I wonder what being fit feels like.
…The waistband on my boxer briefs don’t roll over anymore, that’s a major sign of improvement.
…I actually like some vegetables, who knew.
…I looked forward to shoveling snow.
…I need a new treadmill, the belt on mine slips when I run on it.
…I’m full of energy. So much so, I wake up on my own, before the alarm goes off in the morning.
…This is going to be a great summer.
…My shadow still looks HUGE.
…I’m slowly beating back the devil inside me who tries to sabotage my efforts.
…Do I have a small kidney or am I supposed to pee this much?
…I’m purposly hiding my body under baggy clothes so that my progress is more evident in a few weeks.
…I’m holding out on buying new jeans until I fit in a 34 (was stretching my 36s).
…Already planning some fun outings with the family that I wouldn’t have felt like doing before (trail hikes/kayaking/canoing)
…It will be fantastic to take my shirt off at the pool or at my Dad’s boat without feeling self-concious.
…I will be in better shape at 39 then I have ever been in my life, and I’ll stay that way.
…I miss my old morning cerals like Rice Chex, Golden Grahms and Frosted Shredded Mini Wheat.
…After eating a balanced diet for 10 days, my cravings for sugar are completely gone.
…I’m looking at pictures of myself and wondering why I didn’t care what I looked like before.
…I might be a fitness snob, even though I still have no right to be one yet.
…I want to help others break the cycle of fad diets and crappy exercise and teach them to just use common sense.
…at the end of the 8 weeks, I’d like to shake Craig’s hand and thank him for a great program that’s put me on the path to a healthier life.
Just some random thoughts. I’ll try and put down a more coherent review of my first 10 days on the Belly Off! 2008 program tonight.

Dang, Steve…you took so many words right out of my mouth. The two that stand out the most are the underwear band thing (which I noticed this morning and wanted to tell someone. I was going to put it in my blog, but you beat me to it) and the wanting to shake Craig Ballantyne’s hand. I think he’s a genious. I can’t believe how effective it’s been.
